What you’ll need
  • Node.js 24 LTS (minimum 22.19), curl, and git.
  • Docker running for the default PostgreSQL database, including when agents run on the host.
  • A model-provider account. Connect your credentials in Tau; provider usage is billed by your provider.
  • On macOS, an active desktop login. On Linux or WSL 2, a working systemd user session.

Setup installs the CLI and Bun if needed, builds Tau, and starts its services. The first run can take several minutes. The runtime you choose determines what agents can access; host mode runs commands as your user.

    Open Tau in your browser, create your account, and connect a model provider in Settings.

  2. Give your team a goal

    Create a squad, then start a conversation. Brainstorm an idea, conduct research, and start some work.

  3. Follow the work

    Agents coordinate the task. See progress in the Feed, answer questions in Needs you, and review the result.
